About Book Cricket

Book Cricket is a beloved childhood pastime across South Asia — a simple game that turns any book into a cricket pitch. All you need is a book, two players, and a love of the game. No bat, no ball, no field required.

The game captures the thrill of cricket in its purest form: the tension of a toss, the excitement of a big page number, and the agony of a last digit of zero. It's been played in classrooms, libraries, and living rooms for generations.

How to Play

  1. Toss: Flip a coin — winner chooses to bat or bowl first.
  2. Open the book: Click the book to open it to a random page. The last digit of the page number determines the outcome.
  3. Scoring: Last digit 1–6 = that many runs scored. Last digit 7 or 8 = dot ball (no run). Last digit 9 = No Ball (1 run awarded + an extra ball). Last digit 0 = OUT (wicket falls)!
  4. Innings: Each team bats until all wickets fall or the balls run out — whichever comes first. The batting team's total is their innings score.
  5. Chase: The second team bats to beat the first team's total. If they exceed it, they win. If they're bowled out for less, they lose.
  6. Win: Highest score after two innings wins the match!
